This year represented a "180-degree swing" for federal employees, said Federal News Radio senior correspondent Mike Causey.
Earlier in 2010, President Obama proposed a 1.4 percent pay raise for federal employees. By the end of this year, the president had proposed a two-year pay freeze, and the freeze is now included in the current spending measure moving through Congress.
The talk of downsizing government is also a sharp departure from announcements earlier this year to rely less on contractors and "bring those job back in," Causey said.
"Instead of hiring, [now] you have talk of furloughs and freezes," he said.
The public anger toward feds gained steam after a USA Today article in August that claimed feds made double their private sector counterparts. The report was called "unfair" by OPM Director John Berry. But the debate over federal pay continued into the midterm elections.
In comparison, 2009 was probably one of the best years for federal employees on Capitol Hill, Causey said. Feds received a 3 percent pay raise, 401(k) enhancements and improvements to make it easier to retire and come back to government after retirement, Causey said.
However, in 2010, "Mercury and Venus all aligned in the wrong way for federal workers," Causey said.
Causey added despite the looming pay freeze, federal employees are still eligible for in-grade pay raises. And in general, feds feel lucky to have jobs, he said.
"It could've been much worse," Causey said.

I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?'
She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.'
Her parents beamed with pride.
'Wow...what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.'
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?'
I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'

Barry & Michelle will spend more than that on vacations, partys & bouncing around the rest of the world.

But he had help: Frank, Pelosi, Reed -even those "REPOs!" that had already started the pot boiling before he got here did their part in making the mix toxic! |

They need to cut all their crap & bull #$$%* out and get down to business – this ain't no time for politics if "WE" want to save this NATION.
Obama and the rest of these assholes ( yew 'i' said it ) cause that's what they are, don't get their @#$* together "WE: COULD LOOSE THIS COUNTRY: If they can't figure a way to get "US" out I can!
Put them on the same level as "US" for a year, and let them see what it's all about! Open their eyes to the (( REAL WORLD )) and get them out of this fairy tale experience they've been living for the last 10 years.

The most violent, corrupted and ever devised force in the world is politics. It has no boundaries and will stop at nothing to see it's course set in " it's ways!" If is a vile vicious deception that pulls us all into its' forces.
Beware you are not caught up in its, evil forces for it will devour you, your livelihood, and your country. They have their own agenda and the concern for the people they represent becomes obliterate to their wishes.
This seems apparent form current conditions and situations we as a nation are having to deal with, as the old cliche goes;

Job Search The strange thing about this recovery is how few are benefitting. Businesses are awash in profit, their CEOs again reaping the obscene rewards they enjoyed before the economic implosion, not to mention that they get to keep much more of it thanks to the extension of the Bush tax cuts. The theory of those tax cuts, repeated by Republicans at every turn, is that the rich create jobs, and the more money we give them the more jobs they create. Okay, they've enjoyed ten years of the lowest tax rates in almost a century. Where are the jobs? The Paul Ryan plan for deficit reduction calls for $4.3 trillion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and $4.2 trillion in tax cuts, mostly benefitting--you guessed it--the wealthy. The theory, one more time, is that those tax cuts will result in enough increased tax revenues to balance the budget. In reality,those tax cuts will be financed by drastically reducing benefits for the elderly and the poor, and the share of the pie for the middle class will shrink yet again. And the deficit will not be reduced by anything close to Ryan's imaginary numbers. The Republicans have made it quite clear who they represent. Let us hope that Obama and the Democrats have the backbone in the coming fight to stand up for the rest of us. 'U' hear what 'i'm saying Mr. President-& 'U' think you'll win a 2nd term.  |
