This is the VIDEO and the AGENDA of the Greensburg IN City Council meeting of 2-2-15. NOTE: I would reccomend that everyone listen to the discussion on the funding of the not - for - profits. Personally I can somewhat agree with both sides of funding and not funding this issue. This year there were several Not - for - Profit entities that are funded out of the EDIT funds that were not interviewed at the prior meeting as they had been in the past. Here is a link and quote to a Greensburg Daily News article that identifies those entities and the total funding they received: quote: The mayor said after the meeting that he has received four additional requests for grants to be paid from the city’s share of the economic development income tax. Those requests came from Main Street Greensburg, the Southeast Indiana Small Business Development Center, the Greensburg Learning Center and the Greensburg/Decatur County Economic Development Corp. Last year those organizations received a combined $120,000, with half of that going to the EDC. end quote www.greensburgdailynews.com/news/local_news/more-needed-to-combat-domestic-violence-hunger/article_1bb21a34-9ecc-5de7-a19d-05afefe90c5c.html At tonight's city council meeting Jamie Cain opposed funding the entities that were on the agenda. You can listen to Jamies reasons for not funding in the video. On Jamies stance I applaud his fiscal responsibility. On behalf of the other council members I understand wanting to give the people that are represented by these organizations a hand up as the people of our community are a valuable asset to economic development as well. With that being said the organizations that were given money that were not on tonights agenda at least two of those organizations were going to be self sufficient within one year . That didn't happen and they continue to receive funding and have for many years. One of these organizations receives $60,000.00 another $30,000.00 . Cutting these in half might propel them to become self sufficient and the funds could then be used to maintain our infrastructure like our roads, sewer, water etc. Maintenance of infrastructure is an important part of economic development. Then the riverboat funds could be utilized to assist the not- for -profits listed on tonights agenda which will help the people of our community by giving them a hand up and teaching them to fish. This is the VIDEO and the AGENDA of the Greensburg IN City Plan Commission meeting of 3-17-15 . VIDEO: PART 1 OF 2: youtu.be/82BtfODHZ28PART 2 OF 2: youtu.be/04Mug72ogH4*NOTE: I highly reccomend that everyone listen to the discussion on the primary plat for the reserve at Sand Creek subdivision for developer Jeff Whitaker. IMO I wish the board would have taken a bit more time with the issues that were presented with this and just accepted the plat and not accepted the roads until and if they were brought up to the standards that the city normally requires. I understand they put conditions on accepting the roads of this subdivision...but with funding for road paving etc. drying up any new roads should be concurrent with their standards for a better life of the road and less cost to the taxpayers. There was also a discussion that because this would be a gated community and now Mr. Whitaker wants the city to accept the road whether the taxpayers of the community would be allowed to travel on those roads since they were obligated to paying for their upkeep and services. In the end the board voted this right through. IMO election time good cop bad cop. AGENDA: Call to order Pledge of Allegiance Roll Call Approve minutes of 2-17-15 meeting NEW BUSINESS Rezone request for Greensburg Transitional living center. Primary plat for Reserve at Sandcreek Sudivision and acceptance of roads in that addition - developer Jeff Whitaker. Report status of unsafe buildings - John Holman request to appear on an accessory building. Other items of interest from Plan Commission members Mayor - announces new City Engineer. Adjourn
