Prosecutor: Grandmother shot teen as he called 911

Layne is charged with fatally shooting her 17-year-old grandson. Layne has been jailed since May on first-degree murder and gun charges in the slaying of Jonathan Hoffman, who was shot multiple times May 18 in Oakland County's West Bloomfield Township, northwest of Detroit. Hoffman was living with his grandmother while his mother and father were divorcing and living outside Michigan. An autopsy revealed that Jonathan was shot three times in the chest, once in the abdomen and once in his left arm. Tests show the teen had traces of synthetic marijuana in his body.
