Perry's gaffe was not only detrimental to his White House bid, but it represented a dangerous character flaw in the American electorate: Favoring temporary perception over proven competence. A stellar record as the executive of America's best-run state became completely irrelevant the moment Perry’s face went blank as he struggled to recall the last useless government sinkhole he would rid Washington of. Oh no, here we go again. Another dummy from Texas. What will the Europeans think? I wonder if he can pronounce “nuclear”?
Apparently, Americans feel much more comfortable voting for a man who always remembers exactly which useless, corrupt bureaucracies he wants to waste billions of taxpayer dollars on before they would vote for a man who temporarily forgets which one to eliminate. It can be safely assumed that Perry would have remembered the Department of Energy when it came time to gut it. But even if he never remembered, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Let's leave the reverence for "intellectuals" and eloquent orators to faculty lounges, upper West side cocktail parties, Democrat primaries and MSNBC. I urge all Republican voters to ask yourselves whether you prefer that our nation more closely resemble Texas or Massachusetts and New Jersey before casting your ballot. Personally, I take comfort in knowing that while a shirtless Vladimir Putin is out wrestling tigers, at least Rick Perry is shooting mountain lions on his morning jog. I would sleep better at night knowing that if Al Sharpton should show up on the doorstep of Rick Perry's White House, he would be greeted with a size 12 rattlesnake skin boot. Remember what happened the last time we went for the articulate speaker?
Is Rick Perry smart enough to be President? He was smart enough to see 5 of his state's cities land in the top 10 fastest growing cities in the nation. He was smart enough to help Texas produce 3 out of 10 of all U.S. jobs created during his tenure. He was smart enough to have Forbes magazine name Texas as the leading state for economic climate and future growth. He was smart enough to see over 100 of America's top companies call Texas home.
Perry was smart enough to govern Texas into being America's top exporting state, averaging more than $1 billion of exports every working day. He was smart enough to know that people aren't flocking to Texas for its picturesque landscapes, epic mountain ranges or world-class beaches. They are moving to Texas for low taxes, affordable housing, fewer regulations and all the economic opportunity that goes hand-in-hand with the aforementioned conservative policies.
Last but not least, Rick Perry was smart enough to put smug reporters in their place. If he does decide to run, the real question should be this: Is America smart enough to take a more serious look at Rick Perry?
Well, we know from six plus years of seeing Barack Obama lie, stumble and fumble his way through one crisis after another that he was never "smart" enough for the position Liberals elected him to fill. Ideology is no substitute for actual governing experience, and accomplishment is a more important qualification for the presidency than activism.
Obama's problem is that he's university smart, and not leadership smart.
Think about this:
