Greensburg hires city engineer Posted: Saturday, March 21, 2015 7:00 am He spent most of his 44 engineering years in the private sector, though his public sector experience includes a stint at as the highway engineer in Bartholomew County. At age 66, May said he considered retirement, but instead decided to return once more to the public sector. The mayor said that he interviewed three candidates for the job. Finding top candidates, especially those at the beginning of their career, is difficult, he said, because public sector salaries cannot compete with those being paid in the private sector. May will make an annual salary of $82,000, which is in the middle of the pay scale that local officials have approved for the engineering position.
