I attempted to make the following post on that thread in questions and commentary and to supply information on this subject.....
Most of the time my posts will not show up on there and yet I would like our community to be aware of this information as I think Water is critical infrastructure that needs to be addressed in our community.   For health, for economic development and in understanding that water is fast becoming a world commodity much like gasoline.

How about pursuing a new water source that would be a plan for 100 years not 15 or 20 years?



How about pursuing a water source that was already legislated?



How about pursuing a water source that would bring economic development (by bringing roof tops) not only to Decatur County but also to Rush county?



How about pursuing a water source that was already planned by the army core of engineers?



How about pursuing a water source that could also supply Indianapolis as they were looking to buy water from lake monroe which would also give us co-operation with state government and federal government.



How about pursuing a water source that could make us economically viable for development for a century? No airport expansion or Veteran's roadway will do for our community what a plentiful new water source will do. Be it The Downeyville Reservoir OR hooking up with Eastern Bartholomew Water......in fact how about pursuing both?!? Companies that develop and invest know the status of water, the health of water etc. as it is the most basic "need" for business development and roof top development.

This is the map and information about the Decatur County aquifer systems. all of the City of Greensburg wells come out of the same aquifer. it is called the Silurian and Devonian Carbonates Aquifer System (SDC) on the charts. This aquifer system you can see on the map. you can also see the location of our landfill which is road 280 east. Read the information on the aquifer systems which states that because it is a fractured system that once contaminated it is very hard to bring it back.

This is the link showing that all of the wells of the City of Greensburg come out of the SDC aquifer which runs under our landfill. An aquifer is the underground lake that our wells draw from. Not just the city wells but also many of the county wells.

I have a copy of an office memorandum from the State Board of Health in Indianapolis dated October 16th, 1985 ...the subject is: HRS Comments - Decatur County Landfill CERCLA Investigation. I know that since they have pumped the leachate from the landfill and treated it and spread it on the fields....but remember what the above link on our aquifer says about fractured systems contamination and remediation. In this State Board of Health Memorandum it says the following:

"Sampling conducted during 1985 indicates the potential threat to the aquifer of concern has increased".......I also have an IDEM chart they distributed at a regional water meeting that shows that flatrock during runoff periods elevated the TTHMS (carcinogens) above the safe limit. These TTHM"S / Carcinogens are cancer causers. Could this be due to the processed leachate runoff?
