City, county officials: agricultural district to foster economic development
At 7 p.m. Monday, Greensburg City Council is scheduled to take final action on an ordinance that would create the agricultural district.
As an additional incentive for landowners to be annexed, Greensburg officials want to offer tax abatements, Herbert said. The abatements would offset the higher taxes that landowners would have to pay because tax rates in the city are higher than in the county.
The city’s proposal to create an agricultural district will make it more likely that people will be willing to have their properties annexed and eventually acquired by the city, Coplon said.
Mike Walker, president of the county redevelopment commission, said that the commission is working together with county and city councils, planning leaders and economic development officials to better direct the kind of growth that occurs in the area.
