Does this synopsis sound familiar? Does there not exist in our government, a faction of people, who aim to censor life, and steer people toward their vision of “utopian” ends? The war on drugs, bans on trans-fats & sugar, the Affordable Care Act, the Patriot Act, Social Security, Welfare, etc., all examples of the government crippling the people; taking away freedoms and responsibilities from Americans. In essence, the people of The Giver are slaves. No, they may not be depicted in the manner we usually associate with slavery, but nevertheless they are slaves.
