This is the VIDEO and the AGENDA of the Greensburg IN city Council Meeting of 8/3/2020.
NOTE: I have been following what is being discussed concerning the landfill on the COUNTY side at the APC meetings and on the CITY side with the City Council and the increase in our trash tipping fees and want to share some of my observations and research with the Community and encourage everyone that can to attend the County APC meeting this Wednesday evening 8/5/2020. Because the attendance has been overflowing of the last couple of meetings and with COVID restrictions they are moving Wednesday nights meeting to behind the new SHeriffs department.
Start by listening to a portion of the City Budget meeting of 7/20/2020 : www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFW4TJmQhGQ . Go into the video at the 36 minute mark and listen to the discussion of how other cities surrounding us have used property tax money to pave roads but our City Councils... (past and up to current times) have never done so. Then you will hear a discussion about raising our trash tipping fees $12 dollars and some odd cents and utilizing some of that money to pave roads. Personally i am against using funds (even if legal) for other than the reason they give to us for raising the fees.
On the COUNTY side of things the landfill wants a huge amount of property rezoned for expansion. At all these meetings i have heard from the landfill how much money we are saving on trash hauling by having this landfill in our county. I would argue that they are actually in the long run costing us in more ways than one.
In tonights City Council meeting Street Commissioner Mark Klosterkemper will detail how many times and to what extent the City of Greensburg has had their trash tipping fees increased by the landfill.
It is my opinion with the ramifications of research that i will display below and knowing that 70 some odd percent of what is going into our landfill is from out of county..... i think the landfill should be paying us for allowing them to be here . They are after all a business and if they expand to the size on the rezone they will seek more and more to grow their business which is what businesses ordinarily do.
I believe that our County would benefit greatly by becoming a transport rather than a landfill. It has been discussed to haul it to other transports in other counties a pretty good distance away and at a greater cost... but no one is talking about us being a transport. I am sure if BEX Farms / Best Way is not interested Rumpke might be. I brought this up at the round table meeting and the representative from BEX Farms / Bestway immediately said it would cost us much more and how he was saving us money by being in our county.

* the above article is about a state that has a PFAS law and the ramifications of one town for treating it and applying it to the land as we are currently doing.
* it is referred to as a "forever chemical " in this article.
* it lists how it is showing up in the soil, the water and the food supplies.
* it lists potential health ramifications
When the Mayor asked for comments on this tonight at the city council meeting i did not respond. Why? Because i contacted two council people and asked to speak with them on this mess personally. One came , the other (who i believe is my district council person) could not seem to fit me in their schedule but originally and on a 2nd occastion had set a time to meet... and the third council person i emailed my thoughts. To no avail. The landfill needs some pushing back on these tipping fees at the bare minimum.
PLEASE READ the above links of information on PFAS and what we are doing with the leachate from the landfill and their listed repercussions. If they are rezoned there will only be more leachate and it has to go someplace and in our bodies, our soil, our water, our food supplies is NOT where it should be. Then act by coming to the meeting Wednesday night.
