This is the VIDEO of the Greensburg IN City Council Special Budget Meeting of 8-21-19. NOTE: A balanced budget was presented to the City Council meeting for their consideration, whereupon Jamie Cain spoke up and said this balanced budget was based on spending 100 percent of this budget based on projections of taxes to come in. He voiced his concern that they should reduce the budget as those taxes may not come in as anticipated. Then Jamie Cain brought up his theoretical question about why 4 out of 5 council members are "unopposed" in the fall election. Jamie's question / theory was that perhaps the council pay was not enough for people to run. He proposed a $1000 raise for the council whereupon he and Darrell Poling figured it had been approximately 6 years since the council had a raise. Darren Covington is not running for Council again and Councilwoman McKenzie turned to him and asked why he was not running. Darren honestly answered that it wasn't the money it was because he wanted to spend more time with his son. This discussion about the Council raise was visited at least twice in this meeting at 2 different periods. My letter to the GDN Editor published on 8/22/19
Pay attention to the numbers!
In today's Greensburg Daily News (GDN) of 8/20/19 there is an article on the unemployment numbers throughout the state. Lo and behold Greensburg has a 2.9 % unemployment rate. That is absolutely great for that is considered virtually no unemployment because those who want to be employed are employed. Guess who else matched our low unemployment rate? Rush County also had a 2.9 percent unemployment. Rush County accomplished this rate with no bypass and Greensburg accomlished this rate with no airport expansion. Shelby County on the other hand had a 3.2 unemployment rate and that is with an airport that is already expanded to the size they are proposing here! Since no return on investment has been performed on this airport expansion and no projection of the costs to operate this facility have been done...tell me again why we need this airport expansion for economic development?!?!

Tribbett , attorney for the airport board announced appraisals for 2 property owners, 2 for the Sterchis and one for the Goddard property. Then a motion was made for Attorney Tribett to proceed in presenting the appraisals to the property owners and if needed approval to start the eminent domain on these parcels. There were only 3 of the 5 board members present at this meeting. I was scheduled to be off for vacation the first 2 weeks of September. However Roman and I arrived home a bit early on Wednesday Sept 11th. I did not get my email caught up until around 10 pm that evening and in it i found a notification of a "SPECIAL" meeting of the Board of Aviation Commissioners meeting for 8:15 pm that same evening. What pray tell was SO important that they had to call a "SPECIAL" meeting ?!?!? Why it was to vote to take the land of Charlie & Diane Beggs for this airport that 70 plus percent of the people in this community do not want. Could they not have had at least the respect to have it during a normal meeting when the media might have kept the public informed on what was taking place? |
