First Reading today....this sounds like our nation at this time
Reading 1 Ez 28:1-10
The word of the LORD came to me: Son of man,
say to the prince of Tyre:
Thus says the Lord GOD:
Because you are haughty of heart,
you say, “A god am I!
I occupy a godly throne
in the heart of the sea!”—
And yet you are a man, and not a god,
however you may think yourself like a god.
Oh yes, you are wiser than Daniel,
there is no secret that is beyond you.
By your wisdom and your intelligence
you have made riches for yourself;
You have put gold and silver
into your treasuries.
By your great wisdom applied to your trading
you have heaped up your riches;
your heart has grown haughty from your riches–
therefore thus says the Lord GOD:
Because you have thought yourself
to have the mind of a god,
Therefore I will bring against you
foreigners, the most barbarous of nations.
They shall draw their swords
against your beauteous wisdom,
they shall run them through your splendid apparel.

a bloodied corpse, in the heart of the sea.
Will you then say, “I am a god!”
when you face your murderers?
No, you are man, not a god,
handed over to those who will slay you.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Reader issues a ‘taxpayer alert’
At the most recent meeting of the airport board their engineer stated that they had one last grant fund payment to be returned to them and then the airport runway project would be complete. Then he talked about a grant they could receive in this month of August for an additional project, but they would have to come up with a substantial fund of money if they decided to receive this grant. He also talked about another grant for another project in 2025. You can see the video of this airport board meeting here: youtu.be/ Ot3HW5fG6uo Then I went to the city council budget meeting where the mayor has proposed in the city budget for the airport board to receive $120,000. The mayor proposed this after fixing up their terminal and giving them a car to transport people with. The mayor stated $100,000 potentially could be used to pay down the debt they still have on the airport runway and $20,000 could be potentially used for additional grants. The dollar amount of the debt still owed on the runway is in the budget meeting video.
The mayor also mentioned briefly the words “airport authority.” An airport authority has taxing power and I strongly feel this board should not be given the authority to tax us directly. There are examples on the internet where airport authorities have put a tax levy on the taxpayers to further their projects. Check it out. First of all, this airport runway expansion was sold to the powers that be by saying that it wouldn’t cost the taxpayers anything. They have also said that the airport is self-supporting. I guess that doesn’t matter when you have the taxpayers to bail you out. i understand that the city has to maintain the runway now for the next 20 years as part of the agreement with the FAA, but why take on more projects that will be held accountable to that same 20 year upkeep per project?
In our household, we pay our debts before we incur any more debt and we don’t rely on the safety net of others bailing us out when we can’t. The airport board needs to be held accountable for exactly how they sold this project. They should not be given any more of our tax payer money! I know they were hoping people would forget or not pay attention, but I did and I am.
I encourage you all to let the mayor and city council members know how you feel about giving them your tax money.

Taxpayers will want to listen to this budget meeting...not only for the proposed salary increases but more importantly to the discussion of the AIRPORT BUDGET. Remember how we were all told that the airport would not cost us a dime? Well here is where we start to pay unless the good judgement of a few on the council prevails. At the last airport board meeting the engineering firm stated there was one more grant to come back on the current runway and that project was complete. And yet they are already talking about trying to go for two more grants for additional projects, one that they could be awarded this month. The mayor has already refurbished the terminal and gave them a car to transport people with and in this budget he has proposed giving them $120 thousand dollars potentially to pay down their existing debt on the runway and to pursue another grant. I asked if i could speak and the Mayor refused to allow me to speak. I want to give kudos to Jamie Cain, Kevin Fleetwood, and Darryl Poling who all spoke up and said the council was sold this project on the promise that it wouldn't cost the taxpayers a dime. Well, here we are folks, in some of the most trying of inflationary times expected to give our hard earned money to a project we never wanted and are being forced to support. Please let the Mayor and Council know how you feel about this. Don't just listen to my take on this....listen to this video and get the discussion straight from the horses mouths. |
