Canada to start:
I'm 78 years old and have travelled and lived in many regions of the USA. IMO, the average American is really in the dark when it comes to other cultures and geography around the world. It has nothing to do with the intelligence of Americans, but a lot to do with the educational system. However, after one leaves school and is a little older, I would expect that person to spend time on those subjects. Especially if you're a world power.
I have met some truly great people in the USA and still have people there that I call my friends. Where I part ways is your foreign policies and your illusion that you have the right to interfere in another country's politics to protect "American interests." I truly believe that corporations and government are in bed with each other and do not have the best interests of Americans at heart. Greed, arrogance and profit rules all.
However, as an average American citizen, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. Both Americans and Canadians are really striving for the same values: raising a family, having a job, maintaining a home, food on the table, security and good health.
Thank you for the positive remarks about our country. You are welcome here and I wish you all the best in the future.
2nd comment:
No matter how nice you will try to be Canadians hate your guts for being the most unintelligent, fat, promiscuous, lazy, arrogant and war mongering rude nation on the planet. Trust be your neighbours to the north want a massive hurricane that will wipe all your nation out and change the world for the better where there will be less pollution dn corruption etc.
3rd comment:
Indifferent becauise of the differences, such as the " Gun Culture", " Blood stained Foreign Policy" and the arrogance of the American people but I don't hate them.
4th comment:
No, I don't feel annoyed by Americans. In my experiences down there they have been pretty generous and kind. There's bad apples in every basket... if there are Canadians here thinking we are "better than thou" I think they should re-examine who exactly is the arrogant nationality.
I live in Alberta and I've travelled and stayed for a prolonged period in every Western State. Other than subtle accent differences and differences in governance I found most folks down there were pretty similar to us. English Canadians and Americans from the North or West are a pretty similar breed.... anyone that claims otherwise are just fooling themselves. There seems to be a movement in this country to claim tha small, insignificant differences define us as a nation. If you look past the categorization and just look at the people... I think you'll be hard pressed to find any extreme differences. Like it or not, Canadians and Americans are about as similar as Kiwis and Aussies (I'm talking very general... of course both countries are very diverse and have different sub-cultures, but the general observations will note WAY more similarities than differences.)
