Why do cops disobey the same traffic laws that they get paid to enforce?
Example #1: Traveling home from work (usually in the wee hours of the morning) I have nearly been t-boned twice, while passing by the Jail Center on Smith avenue, by a law enforcement officer. Being the inquiring type I kept the ass-hauling car in sight until it pulled in at the BP on the corner of Pinetree and Smith. Thinking a robbery might be in progress imagine my amazement when it became obvious that it appeared to only be a coffee/cigarette break by a group of city and county cops, even some "white-shirts". I assume the last cop to get there must have to buy.
Example #2: While observing the stop sign at the railroad tracks on Covington Avenue, just a stones throw from Cherokee Park entrance often times I see cops simply breeze through that stop sign at the tracks, not even tapping their breaks. I followed one officer who failed to "stop" at a safe and inconspicuous distance to see him simply stop at the same BP. No emergency. No response call. Just to grab a coffee and smoke a cigarette with his fellow law enforcement officers.
Remember officers of the law...some of us citizens have audio/visual equipment in our vehicles now, just like you people hiding behind the blue wall.
We citizens are still out here, and while you are watching us, we are watching and recording your actions too.
Be warned and start obeying the same laws you get paid to enforce.
We are the other COPs (citizens observing police)
I'll be watching and recording more examples as I see them.
SMILE and say CHEESE! ;D

Dontcha know, cyberman, that they ARE above the law??? About 3 weeks ago, I got pulled over because I didn't sit at a stop sign for 10 seconds before I pulled out onto the highway. I was ticketed for a moving violation that doesn't exist! I thought about installing a dash cam in my truck along with other hiden cameras for the rear exterior/ interior of my truck because lately I've been observing a lot of improper police action from all levels ( local, county, and state) along a highway I take to/from work on a daily basis. The speed limit is 55, but I've observed the officers traveling at speeds in excess of 80mph, only to discover them at a local convenience store getting their free coffee and doughnuts. This is on a nightly basis anymore.

While I know these attitudes, incidents, and abuses are real and prevalent every where, they are not being perpetrated by ALL law enforcement officers. There are still plenty of law abiding and fair officers out there trying to do the right thing for the low wages they get paid.
For those Good Guys, it must be a calling because I can't figure out why you would want to potentially put your life on the line everyday only to get rewarded so poorly by the people you serve. For those Good Guys, I say thank you for getting out there and trying to make a difference on behalf of me and my young girls. You have earned my admiration.
For those Slackers/Abusers..shame on you, you took an oath and I expect you to uphold it or get out of this profession. You might want to remember, sooner or later, as the Bible says, "..your sins will find you out." And either the Good Guys or the citizens will be there to catch you.

Cyberman, Even here in Tville, there will be a few bad apples to spoil the whole bunch, but overall I believe we have many fine officers who are guilty of being human every once in a while.
You are right, though, they should be even more responsible to obey the laws they enforce.
Haha, we could be neighbors. If it makes you feel any better, I only work in Tville. I live in another county.

moderateamerican,
I totally agree with you on this. They need to obey the laws as well.
They do not have a legal right to speed unless they are on a call with lights &/or sirens going, depending on local law.
And just where is the world is Tyville?
Thanks, Mike

Mike, Thomasville is in the bowels of south georgia. Moderate, I will agree that most cops are sincere in their intent to enforce the law. I think they should also be just as sincere in their efforts to obey the same laws that they get paid to enforce. Lead by example. They represent the law, they should obey the law unless they are running bright-N-loud while responding to an offical call and not just trying to get to the stop-n-rob in time for a smoke and free coffee. moderateamerican, I totally agree with you on this. Everybody 'breaks' traffic laws but not everybody gets caught and everybody does not get a ticket every time they get stopped. Nobody's perfect and cops - as a general rule - do not write themselves a ticket.
And why do some people get a ticket while others do not - depends on a thousand factors.

Bowels it is. And I lived in Augusta for a short time.

I'd even lean toward stiffer penalties for law enforcement officers who are caught breaking the law. If you are going to enforce it upon others, you should obey it to the letter. But then again, they're only human. Humans break the rules sometimes. so Equal punishment to all. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . if caught.

Who hasn't run into a corrupt cop now and then? But overall, my opinion is they are here to put their lives in the line of fire to protect us. There are enough good ones out there who deserve respect instead of focusing on the bad ones who don't otherwise deserve to wear the badge.
