Recently, I sat down with the receipts for the past year of all of our household bills. I was seeing how much we have been paying out for just the basic necessities ( yeah, I need a hobby!).
Our cost of living for just the basics jumped up almost 58% in the last couple of years. WTH?

Our electric bill is running almost $300 a month. Natural gas is running $40 a month and the water bill is almost $130 a month despite everything I could do to conserve!
In a couple of months, the electric bill will jump up to almost $500 a month to just keep the chill out of the house. Can't afford to run the natural gas furnace because then the bill will jump up to almost an average of $350 a month. The water bill never changes except by a couple of bucks depending on the usage.
Since the Wall Street bailout, my expenses have skyrocketed. The bank is now changing higher fees. Our health insurance is going to cost us almost $14000 before it kicks in and pays for anything and it no longer covers our prescription meds.
Our meds is going to start costing us anywhere between $300 and $800 a month, depending on which meds needed to be refilled. Doctor visits will be going up and the Mrs has to keep her visits up to take care of her medical conditions.
We are now paying a new county tax just for the priviliege of working in the same county that we live in. There was a 1-2% increase in our federal taxes this year.
Grocery prices locally has jumped up almost 40%. Some items that we paid only $10 is now costing $20. The generic and store brands are higher.
What hasn't gone up? Our paychecks and I'm looking at another possible freeze in pay rate increase next year. So how are we suppose to survive on $1600 a month??
Something has got to give and it needs to be done soon before it gets so far out of control that nobody can survive in this country except for the ultra-rich!
