Country Music Hoedown
Texaco Country Showdown kicks off Saturday
Downeyville native in the mix
Brent Brown Greensburg Daily News
Greensburg — Downeyville's Stacy Lynn has been singing since the age of five.
A 1991 graduate of North Decatur High School, Lynn will continue pursuing her country music dreams Saturday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds as part of the "Texaco Country Showdown," called "America's largest country music talent search." The event is part of the 2012 Country Music Expo.
Promoted by popular Indianapolis country music station 95.5 WFMS, the competition takes place both Saturday and Sunday and gives a wealth of undiscovered talent a chance to shine.
One of those "diamonds in the rough" on the cusp of stardom may well be Decatur County native Stacy Lynn.
Lynn auditioned to be a part of the show recently and was selected to participate in Saturday's showcase alongside fellow soloists Isabelle Parell and Olivia Meek. That trio will be joined by John Riggins and the Mule Barn Band, Brooke Roe and The Dirt Road.
Lynn heads her own band, called "Wildcard," these days, but will be going it alone Saturday.
Having opened for popular country acts and artists such as Neal McCoy, Terry Clark, Steve Azar and Ricochet, Stacy is no stranger to the stage.
She's also participated in previous Decatur County Fall Festival performances and has lent her vocal talents to events intended to prevent domestic violence. Lynn and her band have played in multiple venues throughout southeastern Indiana.
Lynn's small-town roots have fostered big dreams, and Saturday's competition may prove to be the next step in realizing one of her biggest: Becoming a well-known recording artist in her own right.
"I have so much enjoyed living my dream," Lynn told the Daily News. "I hope more of it comes true, and I know I will not give it up anytime soon."
Presently a student at Indiana Business College pursuing a degree as a Paralegal, Lynn will take the stage at the Fairgrounds for a two-song set between 10:45 a.m. and noon. Should she prove victorious, Lynn will go on to perform in the state competition at the Indiana State Fair Aug. 18.
Lynn has covered a variety of hit songs across several genres including Sweet Home Alabama (Lynrd Skynrd), Start Me Up (The Rolling Stones), Hit Me with Your Best Shot (Pat Benetar) and Before He Cheats (Carrie Underwood), according to information posted on her website at
stacylynnwildcard.com.
Information provided to the Daily News lists Lynn as the first soloist of the day Saturday, following a duo of songs by The Dirt Road. Big Country will provide back-up for Lynn and the other solo singers.
Cost for general admission seats is $20. A gold ticket is also available for $70 that allows entry for both dates and boasts special seating. The Blue Ribbon Pavilion plays host to the contestants both days.
Sunday's slate is set to feature Corey Cox (also a Fall Festival favorite), Rodney Atkins, Andy Gibson, Phil Vassar, Jaida Dreyer, The Lost Trailers and Hunter Hayes.
