Kyle Busch flagged for driving 128 mph … in a 45-mph zone There's a time for throttling up, and a time for throttling down.
Just days after winning the North Carolina Education Lottery 200, where he posted an average speed of 101.6 mph, Kyle Busch has been ticketed for exceeding that speed on a public North Carolina road.
Busch was cited for careless and reckless driving; deputies observed and clocked him running at 128 mph in a 45-mph zone on Tuesday afternoon.
Busch now joins a list of famous NASCAR drivers who have had a bit of trouble behind the wheel while off the track. Jimmie Johnson once injured himself after sliding off the roof of a moving golf cart. And Richard Petty famously bumped a driver out of the way for going too slowly on Interstate 85 in North Carolina.
Busch was driving on Perth Road between Troutman and Mooresville, N.C. The road, which runs parallel to Interstate 77, is rural, closely lined with trees and has few residences in the area. Busch was cited near the intersection of Perth and Judas roads, which is directly in the center of the map below:
It's somewhat surprising that more NASCAR drivers don't get caught by the police ... or, at least, their speeding incidents don't result in tickets. After all, when your job involves driving nearly 200 mph, staying at posted speed limits must feel like crawling. Not that there's any excuse for tripling the speed limit, of course.
Later in the day, Busch issued the following statement:
"Today I received a traffic citation in Iredell County. I was test driving a new sports car and I got carried away. I went beyond the speed I should have been going on a public road. I apologize to the public, my fans, sponsors, and race teams for my lack of judgment. I take responsibility for my actions and I can assure you that something like this will never happen again. I thank the Iredell County Sheriff's Department and all law enforcement for the hard work they do every day to protect the public and to enforce the laws in a fair and equitable manner."
Still unknown is what action NASCAR may take against Busch.

The 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup championship just got real interesting after Jimmie Johnson wrecked out of Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 , putting the five-time defending champ in a hole that he may not be able to climb out of.
Here is how the Chase field fared in Saturday night’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway :
1. Carl Edwards – Finished 3rd: Edwards was nervous going into Saturday night’s race, wondering if this would be the one to trip up his title hopes. He left having extended his points lead and, more importantly, doesn’t have Johnson breathing down his neck. (-)
2. Kevin Harvick – Finished 6th: Once again, Harvick turned in a wholly anonymous top-10 finish. He has said he needs to win a race to win a title, and that may just be true. Still, 10 consistent runs without an error would be better than a win. (5 points)
3. Matt Kenseth – Finished 1st: He has flown under the radar, mostly because he’s Kenseth – quiet, unassuming Kenseth. Not so much anymore. He didn’t lead a lot of laps, but it was clear his car was the class of the field. He is definitely a player now. (-7 points)
4. Kyle Busch – Finished 2nd: Busch never has been a factor this far into the Chase. Still, to challenge the drivers ahead of him he needs wins. He almost got it Saturday night. Almost. Busch still never has won a Chase race. (-18 points)
5. Tony Stewart – Finished 8th: The rap on Stewart after winning the first two Chase races was that, yes he had won, but he’d done it on fuel, not speed. We’re seeing that play out now. Stewart is good but doesn’t have the speed to keep up with the front runners. (-24 points)
6. Brad Keselowski – Finished 16th: A small victory after struggling early in the race. (-25 points)
7. Kurt Busch – Finished 13th: Second straight 13th-place finish for Kurt Busch, who was his usual none-too-jovial self over the radio. If crew chief Steve Addington isn’t leaving after the season, he deserves a medal for dealing with Busch’s attitude on a weekly basis. (-27 points)
8. Jimmie Johnson – Finished 34th: For five years, Johnson has been mostly mistake free. He finally flinched. Perhaps racing Ryan Newman a little too aggressively, Johnson lost control of his car with fewer than 20 laps to go and slammed nose first into the wall. He has been down before and came back to win. This Chase either will be his greatest triumph or the one where his reign finally comes to an end. (-35 points)
9. Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Finished 14th: A loose wheel forced Junior to come in for an unscheduled pit stop. If his title hopes weren’t done before, they are now. It’s all about getting a win now, and lo and behold, Talladega is on deck. (-60 points)
10. Ryan Newman – Finished 10th: Did Newman race Johnson too hard? Or was Johnson too aggressive? Depends on who you ask. (-61 points)
11. Jeff Gordon – Finished 21st: Started out terrible, rallied into the top 10, then got spun when David Ragan got into Kasey Kahne . That momentum he had going into the Chase is but a distant memory now. (-66 points)
12. Denny Hamlin – Finished 9th: Five races in and Hamlin finally posts a top-10 finish in the Chase. That pretty much sums it up. (-86 points)

Nothing "WE" couldn't do...."RIGHT"? Lu Lu sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nascar-from-the-marbles/danica-patrick-wins-nationwide-pole-daytona-gives-naysayers-211403103.htmlOf course I'd be the crew chief! "&" you could "giggle" the pole = no not a 'strippper' = .. . . Danica Patrick wins Nationwide pole at Daytona; gives naysayers something to chew on . . . .By Jay Busbee | From The Marbles – 14 hours ago.. . . .. . . DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A moment of silence, if you please, for the "Danica Patrick gets gifts she doesn't deserve" argument. Cause of death: Patrick's triumphant capture of the pole for Saturday's Nationwide Series Drive4COPD 300. Here it is: You have to either accept that Patrick is a bona fide, legit stock car driver, or you have to buy a conspiracy that the entire Nationwide field, including Daytona 500 and Sprint Cup champions, laid down for her. "Anytime you show that you have a fast car, it's encouraging for people to want to help you," Patrick said. "That starts to earn you some respect and credibility." The pole comes just 24 hours after Danica PatrickPatrick walked away from a brutal crash in the Sprint Cup Series' Gatorade Duel 150, a qualifying race for Sunday's Daytona 500. Patrick posted a speed of 182.741 mph, besting Trevor Bayne by only seven one-thousandths of a second. As driver after driver tried and failed to match her time — the field includes Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski — Patrick fidgeted nervously in the garage, talking with Earnhardt and Stewart. Cameras swarmed her as the results became official. [Related: Why Danica Patrick can win the Daytona 500] "That's so cool for her to start her season that way," Bayne said. "They were looking for a boost, and that's a good kick in the butt." In and of itself, the pole won't mean much at Daytona other than a choice pit selection. As soon as the green flag drops, drivers will jockey for position, and everyone will take a turn at the front. Still, Patrick has demonstrated that she can wheel, and as much as the drivers appreciate the attention to the sport, they acknowledge that she belongs exactly where she is. "In the last 24 months," Elliott Sadler said, "she's by far the most improved driver we have across all three series."
