Not only cheaper but enviro friendly - vinegar, baking soda, lemon and salt for cleaning. It's amazing the uses for these simple ingredients. Since i'm on my fonernet, i'm not posting links but you can google "household uses for..." and find TONS of info.

Since my divorce and being on disability I now unplug almost everything in the house I am not using. I no longer use a clothes dryer but hang clothes up in the house. I use the microwave alot more with my cooking.
My computer is shut down every night I get thru with it. If I am going to be gone for awhile from the house I shut down and unplug everything.
It has made quite a difference in my utility bill

That's really good thinking, Joyce. While we have done quite a bit to cut back, and have always lived a pretty simple lifestyle, there are always those hints we can learn from others. Unplugging everything before going out of town is an excellent idea.
Something we've found to have made a difference is cutting back on our cable use. Instead of paying for channels we never watch, we've cut down to the basic 13 channels. With paying for internet cable plus tv cable, we had a pretty high bill every month. Now, it's only $10 plus internet. BIG difference!

I've been putting bubblewrap on my windows right before I put plastic over them every winter. Dunno how much I've been saving, but I've noticed that the rooms feel warmer than usual. Cut the bubblewrap to the size of the glass itself. Spray the glass with water and press on the bubblewrap. The wrap will stay in place and can be reused for a few years. Just resist the temptation to pop the bubbles!!

OH ~ I don't do laundry or run the dishwasher on weekdays from 2 - 7pm. Did you know that's when electricity is at it's highest rates? Cheapest rates are on weekends.
ALSO ~ I've found that my kids moving out saved me a LOT of electricity. my son moved out in July (JULY!!!) and the bill went down 50 bucks a month! wow.

If you do the "Drive-thru" thing and get kid's meals..always check the individual prices or the regular combo prices because alot of times the combos are a better deal. If you are buying two chicken nugget kids meals, you're better off buying the 10 nugget meal and splitting it.
Check combo prices compared to ordering items individually, sometimes it's actually cheaper to not get the combo, you just have to watch that every time because they make subtle changes in the prices
