6/27/2018 - County Council to take action Friday on Jail Bids


The Decatur County Commissioners held a meeting on June 25th to consider and select bids for the new Decatur County Jail project. There were 14 different bid packages as part of the project. The total cost of the combined and accepted bids total $19,545,689. The bids will be recommended to the County Council in a special meeting on Friday, June 29th at 9:00 am in Room 106 at the Decatur County Courthouse. The council will take action to approve funding for the hard construction costs and other associated costs. The base bids accepted by the County Commissioners are:

6/29/2018 - Update: County Council to take action Friday on Jail Bids

Update: The Decatur County Council held a special meeting Friday morning to approve funding for the new Decatur County Jail. Chris Grabowsky from Maxwell Construction, the project manager, presented the information from each of the 14 bid packages and the low bidders. He reported that the contractors are required to carry insurance and liability.

According to County Commissioners President Rick Nobbe, the commissioners are waiting for the county's bond rating from Standard and Poor's prior to selling bonds. He noted that the county will sell the property for the project to the Jail Building Corporation. The county will then lease the land until the project is paid off.

The council approved and accepted the low bidders. They also approved funding for the project up to, and not to exceed, $25 million to be paid from the new local income tax. The council will meet in special session on July 9th to set the bond amount and approve an additional appropriation from the local income tax. Sale of the bonds will take place on July 11th with funding expected by July 25th.
